Our Guest Writer’s Top Five must-haves for Autumn 2010

Written for lilynoa.com by the one and only Minni Me!

Winter seems to be fast approaching the capital and everywhere you look everyone’s rocking a different trend. We’ve decided to shine some light in that fashion frenzy and pick five key items that should see you through winter. Certain key trends can be spotted easily.

Top of the list is of course the camel coat. If you buy only one coat this season make it camel. This look sees the Jackie ‘O’ inspired Camel coat work the catwalks. Stella McCartney, Lavin and Chloe are just a few of the designers that rocked this look. Camel compliments almost everything but we especially love it with black, navy, white and shades of grey.

Second on our list is everybody’s hot favourite lace! It was everywhere this summer and you’ll be glad to hear it’s carrying on into winter. The best way to translate this fabulously sexy material into your winter wardrobe is by investing in one key lace item such as a sheer blouse; team it with highwaisted wide leg trousers and killer heels. A special thanks to Valentino for bringing back the lace trend, Noa and myself are avid fans!

Third on our winter list is the LRD i.e. the little red dress. This trend should keep us all bright and cheerful when the weather turns dull and grey. Plus it’s a great excuse to get into the holiday spirit and the bonus, it brightens up all complexions! Team with tights and ankle boots for a daytime look.

The next fashion must have for winter is of course BOOTS!!! Yes we all love boots but this season it is all about the thigh high boots ala Catwoman *meow* ultra sexy if done right.

The best thing about this trend is that you can find one that fits in with your personal style. There are flat thigh highs available, rock chick versions with buckles etc and of course the sky high heeled versions.

The comfiest winter trend and my personal favourite is the sweater dress. This look which featured prominently in Stella McCartney’s A/W10 range lets us girls look amazing whilst retaining the laidback comfort of lounging in an oversized sweater. Your best bet is to get an oversized boyfriend sweater or cardigan and use a belt to cinch it in at the waist. Go for the preppy look during the day by teaming it with knee high socks.

But if you’re on a budget, there are some great high street versions that should keep you just as cosy. I personally reckon we should all raid the hubbies/ boyfriends/ guy friends/ brothers closets and just steal their knitwear this season teamed with our killer heels!

Various other items will be popping up in people’s style closet as winter progresses, kitten heels are just one of the things being brought back. I’m not a big fan of this shoe style but we can all appreciate that comfort and safety are important during the rainy and icy seasons; nobody wants to land on their bottom in public after slipping on some snow or sleet, Louboutins of course have a funky studded version worth checking out.

Snoods are still big, Burberry of course being known for their famous checked cashmere ones are the hot fav, however there are a lot of other designers as well as high street brands that have their own twist on this practical scarf so do shop around.

Materials to include in your attire are definitely leather and fur, a personal favourite that combines these two trends as mentioned previously by Maadsie and is everywhere this year, is the aviator jacket.

Oh and might I add before I complete this list if there’s one small leather accessory you invest in this frosty season please please please buy yourself some fabulous leather gloves (you’ll thank me later) nobody rocks the wrinkled frostbitten hands look trust me.

Also feel free to send us your winter looks and style ideas, we love to share J!
